How Can We Use Technology To Create A Better Artist Portfolio?

What Is The Problem?

As we all know, as time passes, technology seems to simplify everything we use in life. When artist portfolio’s were first made, they were rather large. Artists would carry there work inside to show others. This became a problem when techonology took its place. With technology we can invent a new way for artists to show their work in a convienent way for themselves and others.

Why Does This Problem Exist?

Artist Portfolio’s are made for artists to present their work to others. They are made so that artists can someday get famous for their efforts in what they enjoy doing in life. This portfolio helps artists make more and more people be able to view their artistic works. But making a portfolio may be very expensive. You also have to drag this portfolio with you everywhere you go so that you can show your work to whoever would like to view it.

Why Is It Worth Solving?

As I said before, technology seems to be convienent for everyone these days. With technology artists can make a simple new way of showing their work to others by using computers instead of a big leather portfolio that needs to be carried around everywhere. It is frustrating to have to leave your art work with someone so that they can look at your artwork, especially when you have other people who would also like to see your work.There are so many ways to put your paintings or art work into a simpler form to show others and with technology, we can make that possible.

Design Brief

There are many ways that people have come up with to design artist porfolios. With the research that was done during my investigation stage, there were a few ideas that caught my eye because of the convienence it gives us artists.

Option # 1: Website

There are many pros and cons when it comes to this idea to create an artist portfolio. The pros of this techonology is that internet is used by almost everyone who has access to it, therefore many people would be able to view your work. The though part is that you have to publicize your work, make people know what type of style you have when creating your paintings. Another con is that it may look unprofessional if you are asking someone at an art gallery to view your work on a website. Workers in art galleries don’d necessarily have time to go to everyones webpage to view their work. They’d rather it be handed to them.

Option # 2: Magazine

As well as every other design, we have pros and cons to creating a magazine. This invention may be quite expensive to make since you will be handing one to every person who would like to see your artwork. When using a magazine it is easier to make your viewers understand what it is that you would like to accomplish with your artwork by using words. You can put a mini biography of yourself or of the pictures you have taken or painted.

Option # 3: CD-ROM

This creation can be very convienent for artists. You can put your artwork on a CD-ROM by using different programs on your computer. CD-ROMS are also very cheap and come in large packages so it is easier to hand out to different people. Since many people have access to computers of laptops, it is easy to just slip in a CD and view an artists work. With a CD it may also be convienent for the people who view your portfolio, since they would probably be able to keep it just because it is so easy to make other copies, they can view it later.

Your Choice Of Design:

The option I would like to do my project on is the CD-ROM. This option has more pros than cons in my opinion. It is affordable and easy to carry around. You can make many copies and even make art galleries keep your work. This will not require as much work as the other options, it is simple and could turn out to be very nice is effort is put into making it personalized. I will use Flash to create my CD-ROM. Depending on which art work I decide to put on my CD, I will either use a scanner to scan my art work or a camera to take my pictures to put them on the CD. I will also be using a computer and the Flash program. I believe this is the best choice out of the three options I have chosen.

The Process Of Our Media Project

A couple of blogs ago, my partner and I organized a “Project Plan” so that we can have control over the dates and deadlines for each part of our project. So far, we have done our T-Script, but it needs some minor adjustments. We must add more detail to each time frame. We have researched some interesting and shocking facts that will be shown in our video. We have also found pictures that explain what recycling may cause. We thought of our main scenes and who will be acting in it. In our first scene, Joseph Gatto, Anthony Scordo and Steven Le Piane. Our Second scene Stephanie Tomassino and her two friends. We have organized a time and place to start the filming. Although we are a bit behind with our schedule, we will try our hardest to catch up and make this a successful project.

Why Do People Watch Sports?

Sports is definately something that interests me. I do not play any sports, but I do like watching soccer and at times hockey. Most of my guy friends play many sports, especially soccer, so I am always surrounded by hearing about the latest goals and players. I also have 2 brothers so it’s hard to stay away from all the chit chat that involves sports. I would prefer to watch any sport in person rather than television, but I do enjoy watching the Euro or WorldCup on television which comes approximately twice a year. It’s strange how you can enjoy watching a sport that you don’t really know about. I guess it’s because you get the feeling that your part of a team by watching them play and being anxious for a player to score and win the game. I believe for some people, watching sports is like watching their dream. I know many men, like my father for example who would have loved to continued to play soccer but can’t because of inguries. By watching their favorite sport, it gives them a sense of happiness and excitement. People who cannot play soccer, show their love and support for their sport in a different way. They support their sport by watching their games and buying accesories or clothes that represent the team they go for. For example, when the world cup of soccer comes every 4 years, we see people going for their own country or nationality. I find it very beautiful to see all these people in our area representing their country by cheering and wearing colors or clothes that represent where they are from. I am italian therefore I go for them whenever they play soccer. It is so nice to see all the people who can relate to you because of where your from. Watching sports is more important to some people than it is to others. I think this is a very normal way of thinking because people may have sports in a different level of priorities. Watching sports has become a very popular event all around the world, seeing different nationalities going for their team is something that just makes people feel connected because in the end, we all play the same sport.

How Does Media Affect The Environment?

As we all know, media is the number one way to send a message to people all over the world. Whether it be about people in different countries at war or a new brand of shoes that has just gone in style, media is the most popular way to send a message. We all have access to media. For example, each morning when you turn on your television, or listen to the radio, you are retrieving information concerning all sorts of things happening around the world by using technology, which is a source of media. Media is about sending a message. It is way to connect to the world and really see what is going on out there. For example, when you are driving and see billboards that advertise the importance of air pollution, you are using media. To create billboards that we see in metro stations or busses, we use photography and graphic design, which is projects that are done concerning media. Media likes to sometimes exagerrate the way our society really is. In my opinion, media may have its moments where the information they put out is unnecessary and untrue, but I do believe that it is the most popular way to get people to understand what is happening to our environment and society. Media has begun to raise the awareness about our environment in a very harsh way, they really make you understand the importance of air pollution. For example, problems with global warming have really affected our environment and it is important to us that we find ways to help our community and save our planet by doing the little things that count. If we all retrieve a message from any source of media, we can realize & understand what is going on around us and truly make a difference by helping out a little.

Plan The Project

Project: Video Production
Subject: Recycling

Steps:

Step 1: Gather information & facts on recycling.
Browse on youtube, find interesting videos, statistics etc.

Step 2: Find pictures demonstrating the damage done when recycling isn’t being done.
Before and after pictures showing how much recycling can change our environment.

Step 3: Create a T- Script. T- Script must be a detailed time frame describing what will
be shown on our final product. (Titles, Pictures, Facts, etc.)

Step 4: Find Characters to be filmed in our movie.
Decide and agree on a time and place to start the filming.

Step 5: Film Video and Interviews.

Step 6: Upload Video, Photos and Facts onto the computer we will be
using to create our final product.

Step 7: Edit video. Add music in background, sounds, special effects etc.

Step 8: Put different scenes in order to create exactly what was expected from our T-Script.

This plan will help my partner and I to be organized and on schedule with the planning of
our project. If we stick to this plan and do everything step by step, we should succeed in having
a complete project. This plan organizes our time and work, making us aware of what is done and what
still needs work. By using this plan, we will be organized and encouraged to finish our project with
great efforts.

Presidental Election 2008

Personally, I am not a big fan of elections. I’m not into politics or anything concerning the government, but this year the elections really made me think of the world we live in today and how we can change the society we live in.  Barack Obama was elected to be the forty-fourth president of the United States on Tuesday November 4th, 2008 against McCain. In my opinion, the people’s choice for Obama to become president was an excellent choice. I would have done the same because i did not agree with some of the ideas that McCain had in mind. McCain is completely against abortion, which is something i do not support. He also wants the war to continue, which is another thing i certainly do not agree with. Who in the right state of mind would want to continue a war when you know that there are innocent men dying out there. I just did not see how having McCain as a president would help make the world a better, safer place to live in. I am very pleased that McCain did not win. Barack Obama being elected as president is history in the making. He is the first black president for the United-States which is something that has made a great history. I think it is about time America gets a president who knows what he’s doing, a president who will make the right decisions for a better future.

Why Do Some People Like Horror Films?

Even when I was young, I always enjoyed watching horror movies with my father. At the age of 7, I used to watch Chuckie and Freddy Crugars Nightmare On Elm Street. I never really understood what was going on, but I just enjoyed the rush that I would get once I knew that something scary was about to happen. Still til this day, I enjoy watching scary movies, but honestly speaking, I rather not be alone.

Horror movies are stories that rarely ever happen in real life. With all the guns and knives and saws or whatever type of weapon you want to use. This is why many people tend to enjoy watching horror movies. There is something about the feeling you get in your stomach when you know something bad is going to happen. You put yourself in that person’s shoes as your watching the film and it really makes you feel like your living it in real life. On the other hand, there are films that everyone knows can’t really happen in real life, which is why we watch it. We see things that are new and exciting, we always have that ” What If? ” question in back of our minds. Some older people may like to watch scary movies or get scared just to feel like a little kid again. You kind of let go of yourself and make the things scare you, like a thrill you get from a rollercoaster. Many people like myself just like to watch these movies because your always on your toes, fasinated by what will happen next! These type of films are one of my favorites.

Recycling

Don’t you think that it’s time we actually take recycling seriously? Sure, people tell us not to waste paper, but what about our garbage? What about our water bottles or plastic containers? We should take a step forward into making this world a better place to live in. We all seem to not appreciate anything we have anymore, and that’s what makes it so easy for us to just forget about the things that matter, the things that can one day change our lifestyle. Recycling is an environmental issue that we must deal with. Sure, we all do recycle, but how much do we actually contribute? We throw things on the ground, empty cans, empty plastic bottles etc, not even realizing that it is also causing pollution. We are killing one major part of out areas of interaction, environment. We should get together and make a difference by contributing to the recycling awareness. It will make a huge difference and create a healthier lifestyle for us all.

Biography James Cameron

My project, video production relates to many directors and producers who have made many famous films. I found myself looking for movies that truly made a great hit in theatres all over the world. The first movit that came to mind was “Titanic” which was directed by James Cameron.

James Cameron was born in Ontario, Canada on Augst 16, 1954.  He immigrated to the United States in 1971. His father, Phillip, was an electrical engineer and his mother, Shirley, was an artist and a nurse. James majored in physics in California State University but after he graduated he set his mind to his screen writing ambition. He had his first professional job as an art director and process-project supervisor on Roger Corman’s film “Battle Beyond The Stars” (1980) and debuted as a director on the film “Piranha Part Two: The Spawning”(1981). James had a reputation for being a control freak when it comes to producing his films. He has made many great movies like “Aliens of the Deep” (2005), “Ghosts of the Abyss” (2004), “True Lies” (1994), “Aliens”(1986) etc. His two movies that i enjoyed the most were “Titanic” (1997) and “The Terminator” (1984).

These two movies were very big hits in hollywood and all over the world. Titanic was the biggest box-office success in movie history.  What really caught my attention about this movie,  was that James actually went beflow the surface of the Atlantic to see the Titanic wreck. He looked at the miniature models of furniture or other footage and tried to make it as real as possible in the movie. It is just amazing. He started to work on the movie in 1992 and it became a success in December 1997. Another film he directed was the terminator. This also made a great hit in the box office. The Terminator had many special effects, but they were respectable. It is said that The Terminator remains one of the best and most exciting hard science fiction movies of the last twenty years. (John C. Snider) It has one sequel, “Terminator 2: Judgement Day” and there are several comic books that are based on this movie.

This persons work was remarkable. Especially for the big hit, “Titanic”. It touched my heart that he put in such great efforts to honor the 1.500 people who died when the great ship sank in 1912. He won eleven Oscars in 2000 for this film.  I believe he truly diserved this because he actually spent time and effort to get a whole crew together to find Titanic in the Atlantic. It just amazes me. He has put a great impact on people by the way he showed a story that took place in 1912. He has touched many peoples hearts by letting them know this true story in such an amazing film.
